What is Kudumbashree

Kudumbashree

Kudumbashree is a major initiative implemented by the State Government for the social and economic empowerment of women in Kerala. Poverty eradication, women’s empowerment, promotion of self-employment, and development of livelihood opportunities are among the major objectives of Kudumbashree.

Kudumbashree works by organizing women through neighbourhood groups and utilizing their collective strength and skills to achieve economic and social progress for families. The activities of Kudumbashree are mainly coordinated through three levels: Neighbourhood Groups, Area Development Societies (ADS), and Community Development Societies (CDS).

Neighbourhood Groups
Area Development Societies (ADS)
Community Development Societies (CDS)

Kudumbashree plays an important role in providing women with training, access to credit, technical assistance, and marketing support to start self-employment activities and develop small-scale enterprises. Kudumbashree enterprises operate in various sectors such as agriculture, food processing, catering, tailoring, small-scale production units, and service activities.

Kudumbashree is also actively involved in social development activities. Its initiatives cover areas such as protection of women's rights, health and education awareness, social security, gender equality, and local development.

Kudumbashree activities in Azhiyur Grama Panchayat help strengthen women's collective efforts and entrepreneurship, thereby contributing to the economic progress of families, social development, and more effective functioning of the local governance system.
