🤝 Key Responsibilities of the Welfare Standing Committee
The Welfare Standing Committee is entrusted with the complete oversight of Social Welfare, Poverty Alleviation, and the implementation of Social Security Schemes.
1. ⚖️ Social Justice and Welfare of Vulnerable Sections
SC/ST Welfare: Formulating special schemes for the educational and economic upliftment of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities.
Protection Against Exploitation: Taking measures to protect backward and other vulnerable sections from social injustice and exploitation.
Special Plans: Supervising the preparation of schemes like Tribal Sub Plans and SC Sub-Schemes, and ensuring the accurate utilization of their funds.
2. 🛡️ Social Security Schemes and Pensions
Welfare Pension Distribution: Scrutinizing and approving applications for Social Security Pensions (such as Old Age Pension, Widow Pension, Disability Pension) and ensuring efficient distribution.
Beneficiary Identification: Recommending the identification of eligible beneficiaries for inclusion in various schemes.
Financial Aid Distribution: Taking decisions regarding the distribution of various financial aid schemes implemented by the Panchayat.
3. 👩👧👦 Women and Child Welfare
Women's Development: Formulating and implementing schemes for the social and economic empowerment of women.
Child Welfare: Supervising the functioning of Anganwadis, child welfare-related programmes, and the distribution of nutritional supplements.
4. 📉 Poverty Alleviation and Other Duties
Poverty Eradication: Supervising the planning and implementation of poverty alleviation schemes (e.g., Kudumbashree, National Rural Livelihood Mission).
Disaster Relief: Coordinating disaster relief activities within the Panchayat's jurisdiction and recommending the utilization of the disaster relief fund.
