📝 Key Responsibilities of the Development Standing Committee

The main duties of the Development Standing Committee of the Grama Panchayat are to ensure the planning, supervision, and execution of developmental activities.


1. 🗺️ Development Planning and Scheme Formulation

  • Overall Planning: To plan the necessary schemes for the overall development of the Grama Panchayat.

  • Socio-Economic & Spatial Planning: To formulate programmes aimed at socio-economic growth and planning that takes into account the geographical specificities of the region.

  • Annual Plans: To prepare the Panchayat Annual Plans and present them to the Grama Sabhas (Ward Assemblies) for approval.

2. 🌱 Oversight of Key Development Sectors

The Committee supervises activities in the crucial development sectors of the Panchayat, including:

  • Agricultural Sector: Agriculture, seed distribution, fertilizers, and irrigation.

  • Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development.

  • Environment: Soil conservation and social forestry.

  • Water/Fisheries: Irrigation and fisheries.

  • Industry: Promotion of small-scale industries.

  • Infrastructure: Public Works, and Housing construction.

3. 💡 Energy and Basic Facilities

  • To ensure rural electrification, the use of non-conventional energy sources, and the installation and maintenance of street lights, etc.

4. ✅ Project Execution and Monitoring

  • To ensure that all projects under the Committee are completed on time and efficiently.

  • To evaluate the progress of the projects and make necessary corrections if required.

  • To coordinate activities according to the suggestions from Working Groups and Grama Sabhas.
